A mechanism will soon be set up to monitor the contents and context of the lyrics of songs before they are allowed to be recorded for public rendition.

The Cultural Affairs Minister T.B. Ekanayake responding to a query by Ceylon Today said the relevant cabinet paper is being prepared by him with a view to tabling it before the cabinet soon.

The popular youth singer Gayan Perera is alleged to have distorted a Buddhist Gatha (Stanza) in his latest hit ‘Tiken Tika’.

The Minister elaborating the process he had in mind said he intends to amend the Public Performance Act so that in the future lyrics and the context of songs are approved by the Public Performance Board (PPB) before they are recorded for public rendition.

Meanwhile in a related development Ven. Mahamega Pagnaratne thera of Sunethra Devi International Buddhist Centre had lodged a complaint with the Mirihana Police against this song. (Ceylon Today Online)
