A phone call, secretly given to her mother by an abducted underage girl using the phone of one of her abductors, has provided a clue to arrest the offenders a year later.
Fort Police informed Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli that the 14-year-old girl was abducted and raped after taking her to a house located in Mt. Lavinia. According to the police, the girl was abducted from a bus station when she was waiting to meet her mother on 8 April 2011.
They added the girl had managed to give a call to her mother using an abductor’s mobile phone and the suspects were arrested following the clue.
The two suspects, identified as mobile phone vendors at the Fort bus stand, were arrested by the police on Monday. The police said an investigation has been launched to arrest another suspect, who was said to be involved in the incident.
After considering the submissions made by the police, Magistrate Singappuli ordered the suspects to be remanded till 6 August.
