The Railway Employees Union vowed to take stern trade union action yesterday if the authorities failed to recover the loss and damage caused to 36 power sets, due to substandard diesel, amounting to Rs 30 million.
Sumathipala Manawadu, Secretary of the Union charged the Sri Lanka Railways Department suffered heavily because of the substandard diesel and that the loss should be recovered from the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation.
Meanwhile, the Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association charged that more than 1,000 buses were damaged after refuelling with substandard fuel, 200 of which are completely not functional.
