Sirisena ready for showdown

Documentary proof of Ranil’s alleged treachery in 1994

By Arunadale Wijeyratne

Minister Maithripala Sirisena said he will show documentary evidence if UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake came forth for an open debate regarding UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe’s allegiance during the 1994 Presidential Elections.

Minister Sirisena had previously accused Wickremasinghe of conspiring with the then People’s Alliance Presidential candidate Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga, to defeat the then UNP Presidential candidate Gamini Dissanayake in the 1994 Presidential polls.

“What should be done now is to name a time and date as to when the debate over this issue should be held. If the UNP General Secretary delays this further, that will only mean that he knows that he would be defeated in this debate. The entire country is looking forward till this debate happens,” Minister Sirisena told Ceylon Today.
