Security for doctors

Senior DIG and a group of doctors from the GMOA held a special meeting to discuss

A special meeting between Senior DIG (Administration) Gamini Nawaratne and a group of doctors from the Government Medical Officers Association (GMOA) was held last morning at the Police headquarters in Colombo; to discuss arrangements to provide security for doctors.

 

Some of the other main issues discussed at the meeting were, investigations pertaining to the hand-grenade found at the residence of Dr. Lalantha Ranasinghe in Dehiwala.

 

The CID was tasked to investigate the attack, and the police team informed the members of the GMOA that a team had been deployed to carry out the investigations.

 

Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake also agreed to investigate threats on GMOA members and provide security.

 

The team of doctors also agreed to deal directly with police on matters pertaining to threats being faced by them.

 

The police team also agreed to act swiftly in instances pertaining to the security of the doctors.

 

 Among those who attended the meeting from the GMOA were Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya (Secretary), and executive committee members Dr. Prasad Ranaweera, Dr. Naleen Ariyasena, Dr. K.A.D Milroy and Dr. Saman Abeywardena.

The police team was headed by Senior DIG (Administration) Gamini Nawaratne, Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake, DIG (Crimes) Ravi Wijegunawardena, DIG (Law) Gamini Dissanayake, and several other police personnel of the Western Province.
