Photo evidence submitted to AG’s Dept

By Binoy Suriyaarachchi

A Compact Disk (CD), containing photo evidence taken at the scene where former Presidential Advisor, Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra was assassinated, was handed over to the Attorney General’s (AG) Department, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), informed the Colombo Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP), Shani Abeysekara of the CID made the observation, when a Court inquiry into the case was taken up for hearing before Colombo Additional Magistrate, Prasanna Alwis.

ASP Abeysekara said two discussions in connection to the case were held at the AG’s Department on 30 August and 11 September. He said the CD and several other documents related to the case were submitted to the AG on 11 September.

ASP Abeysekara added the next step in the case will be taken once the CID receives directions from the AG’s Department.

Premachandra was killed and MP Duminda Silva sustained serious injuries in the shooting that occurred on 8 October 2011. Silva is currently receiving medical treatments at the Mount Elizabeth Hospital in Singapore.

Hemantha Warnakulasuriya, PC, appeared on behalf of Silva, the main suspect in the case. Counsel Upul Kumarapperuma appeared for the family members of the slain, Premachandra.
