Masquerading racist elements target Muslims

By Azra Ameen

A few persons introducing themselves as the officials of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) have walked into two mosques in Matara on Thursday and questioned the devotees there whether they were planning to stage any agitation against the government , according to Western Provincial Councillor Mujibur Rahman.

He said that certain racist elements were behind incidents of this nature and called upon the Muslim organizations and leaders to form a coalition to fight against the repeated intimidations targeting Muslims and their places of worship.E said He

“On Thursday a few persons introducing themselves from the CID have barged into two mosques in Matara, namely the Mohideen Jummah Mosque and Al Meerah Jummah Mosque. They had questioned the devotees present there whether they were propagating against the government and the Buddhists in the country.

“This attitude is thoroughly disturbing. Already the mosques have been targeted by the racist elements in Dambulla, Kurunegala and Dehiwala,” Rahman said.

According to the Western Provincial Councillor some people have even carried out a campaign against the Muslims in Alpitiya and Galle, where they have requested the people in those areas not to purchase goods from the shops. They have also told the Muslim shop owners to close down their shops.

While accusing the government of not taking notice of racist elements, Rahuman said their activities would lead to damage the coexistence between various communities in the country.

The Muslims in Sri Lanka have been living without any issues with other communities .I feel the Jews with the consent of the CIA may have infiltrated the racist elements of the Sinhalese societies .I don’t think all Buddhists will like this but we should now get united and discuss these issues before it goes out of hand .So our Muslims of all races with the politicians should hold hands together in finding a solution .I hope our Muslim brothers will not try to pull each other’s legs like what is happening in the Arab world if not we to in Sri Lanka will get battered.

Articles like this never address the growing animosity against the ever growing Muslim presence. When I was a child back in the 1960's living in Colombo I only saw one Mosque and even that Mosque was hardly visible. Now, one can see a Mosque on practically every other block in the city. Obviously the growth of Muslims and their successful conversions of Buddhists to their faith as witnessed by me when a Muslim school closed for the day and out emerged Sinhalese women wearing the Hijab. After this sectarian and ethnic war the Sri Lankan Buddhist culture continues to be challenged by non Buddhist elements. These people are not insane. They are reacting to the ever growing presence of the Muslims. Myanmar is now devolving into a sectarian civil war as Myanmar Buddhist fights against the Bangladeshi Muslim population who like the Tamil Hindus want a separate homeland.

No country will grow if the internal unrest is not solved by the governments. According to Sri Lanka most of the time the country has been governed by the respectful leaders, all the Sri Lankans have been treated equally, unfortunately now the country has become the narrow minted.
