“Julampitiye Amare” an underworld figure wanted in connection with several offences and reportedly was present at the scene of the crime at the time of the Katuwana shooting last Saturday surrendered to the Tangalle High Court through a lawyer this afternoon.

“Julampitiye Amare” also known as Geegana Gamage Amarasiri had escaped from prison in 2002, he had surrendered to the police for charges against him for offences committed previously, but not the Katuwana shooting.

After surrendering he was remanded till tomorrow (20) by Court. The police are conducting further investigations. (GS)
