Suspects in nine-year-old murder arrested

By Nimal Walpita – Pallepola

Police arrested four suspects, including a woman, in connection with a murder that took place nearly nine years ago.

The diseased, K.A.H. Bandusena, was a resident of Embilipitiya, and was married to suspect Ganegedara Indrani (43), a resident of Mahawela, Millawana area. They had one child. The female suspect has been remanded till 2 July by order of the Naula Magistrate.

According to the police, the deceased and the suspect had been having family disputes for quite some time, and one day, nine years ago the wife had conspired with three others to murder the husband.

The female suspect’s brother, along with a friend, had committed the murder, the police said.

The relatives of the deceased complained to the Mahawela Police of his disappearance, as he had neither attended his father’s funeral nor had visited his relatives in a very long time.

The police had then questioned the female suspect, who had revealed the murder plot and the whereabouts of the brother who assisted in committing the crime.

Kalawana Police then initiated an investigation in their precinct, following which the female suspect’s brother had handed himself over to the police.

Subsequently, the main suspect and the owner of the locally made firearm used in the murder had been arrested by the Mahawela Police and handed over to the Dambagalla Police. The firearm too had been seized by the police.

The police had identified the scene of crime with the assistance of the suspects and recovered some pieces of cloth from the area. The further investigations are being carried out by the Dambagalla Police.
