FITIS unveils big-league duo ICT events

The biggest ICT events of the year, which will portray the country’s persistent development and the significance of information communications and technology, will be hosted by the Federation of Information Technology Industry Sri Lanka (FITIS), on November 2012. Accordingly, ASOCIO 2012 the regional ICT Summit, will be held in Sri Lanka from the 15th – 17th November at the Hilton Colombo alongside INFOTEL 2012, the National ICT Exhibition at the BMICH from the 16th -18th November 2012.

 

The announcement was made at an official launch held at the Hilton Colombo Residence, amidst ASOCIO Secretary General Dr. Wong Say Ho, Export Development Board Chairman Janaka Ratnayake, ICTA CEO Reshan Dewapura,  Sri Lanka Tourism Development Board Director ICT Udana Wickramasinghe, Intel Country Business Manager Indika De Zoysa, Personal Secretary to Minister of Telecom and IT Janath Fernando, the Executive Committee of FITIS and other executives representing the ICT sector of Sri Lanka.

 

FITIS Chairman T. Suresh speaking on the vision of the event stated, “The present business environment is more apt for foreign delegates to take advantage of and make strong investment opportunities capitalizing on the immense business opportunities available in Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka has emphasized its special interest and attention on facilitating the ICT industry as it is one of the key drivers contributing for a positive economic shift. At this juncture, I would like to extend our heartiest appreciation to the Ministry of Telecommunication and IT, EDB and ICTA for their continuous support and guidance”.

 

ASOCIO 2012 themed ‘ICT Beyond Borders’ is set to attract over 500, including over 250 foreign delegates from 29 countries where local and international professionals will share their best practices in ICT. FITIS has organized a business matchmaking session to generate networking opportunities.  In the meantime, Infotel 2012 will showcase over 250 stalls including Hardware, Software, Systems Integration, ITES/BPO, Office Automation, Telecommunication Equipment, Telecom Services, ICT Training, Electronic Media, Gaming, Medical Electronics, e-Citizen Services and e - Sri Lanka initiative segments.  e-Health and IT in Agriculture are two new categories featured in this year’s exhibition according to the organizers.

 

FITIS General Manager Paul Outschoorn stated, “We are delighted to announce that we have invited foreign participants to showcase their products and services in this year’s edition of INFOTEL making it a truly international event. I would also like to thank our sponsors for coming forward and supporting these two major events in our calendar”.

 

FITIS has been in operation for the last 15 years as the unified body of the ICT industry in Sri Lanka.  It is actively engaged in developing the ICT industry in Sri Lanka through the implementation of many programs which have been successfully carried out to further ICT usage and creating a continual growth in the job market with the ICT sector. It has also significantly contributed to ICT awareness across the country. FITIS constitutes Sri Lanka Computer Vendors Association (SLCVA) – the Hardware Chapter, Sri Lanka Association for the Software Industries (SLASI) – the Software Chapter, Association of Computer Training Organizations (ACTOS) – the Training Chapter, Lanka Internet Service Providers Association (LISPA)/ (TPA) – the Telecommunications Chapter and Information Security Audit & Control (ISACA).
