The Sri Lanka Premier League (SLPL) moves into second gear today at the Pallekele International Cricket stadium when the championship recommences after two rest days with nine matches on the cards.
After the seven teams played two matches each in Colombo there is no indication of a clear favourite or the teams to make it to the semi finals.
But if one team has been playing to a set mode the Nagenahira team under Angelo Mathews can get top billing after winning both games and are leading the points table.
They will meet the Basnahira team under lights at 8 pm today in a bid to reinforce their hold in the standings and all eyes will be on their explosive opening pair of Imran Nazir and Ahamed Shehzad followed by Mathews at Number three.
Another team that could come under the spotlight is the Uthura Royals team led by crowd-puller Lasith Malinga who plucked four wickets against the Uthura Rudras team three days ago at the Premadasa stadium.
His team is also well stocked with batsmen like openers Aaron Finch and T-20 specialist Gihan Rupasinghe who opened the innings against Uthura Rudras and smashed 97 runs in under 11 overs as their team crushed their rivals.
Ruhuna Royals and Nagenahira Nagas confront each other in what could be the match in Pallekele on August 21.
Kandurata Warriors and Uthura Rudras have yet to win a match while Nagenahira Nagas and Ruhuna Royals occupy the first and second slots respectively.
