Four national records were among the 28 meet records that were established at the 38th National Age group Swimming Championship 2012 concluded at the Ananda College swimming pool yesterday.
Two of the national records were set by Visakha’s Nadeera Jayasekara who clocked 32.66 seconds in the Under 19 girls 50m backstroke and 1:13.15 seconds in the 100m backstroke.
Machiko Raheem of Asian International School set the other national record clocking 10:03.66 in the under 19 girls 800m Freestyle while her school-mate Matthew Abeysinghe broke a 25- year old record clocking 16:30.00 seconds in the 1500m Freestyle .
However Matthew Abeysinghe was the cynosure of all eyes as he established six new records including the national record. In the girls category Kimiko Raheem accounted for four meet records while her sister Machiko claimed three records.
Royal College Colombo and Mahamya Girls College Kandy emerged overall champions of the boys and girls segments respectively.
St. Joseph’s College who were the school swimming champions two weeks back finished second while Ananda College finished third.
Visakha finished second in the girls category while Asian International School finished third.
