A'pura Police round up 1,400 wanted persons

Anuradhapura Mahesh Patabendige and Chinthaka Chandrasiri

 

Anuradhapura Police have rounded up last month 1,400 people who had warrants issued against them.

 

According to Superintendant of Police Mahesh Senaratne who is attached to the Anuradhapura Police Division, a majority of the suspects have been involved in several criminal activities and had been evading the police in the Anuradhapura District.

 

“Most of the warranted felons were wanted for robbery, fraud, theft and rape,” he said.

 

According to SP Senaratne, some of the wanted suspects have either died or gone  out of the country. However, he stressed that police are on the alert to catch the suspects.
