The Mahara Magistrate remanded two persons till 9 August yesterday, for keeping in their possession a locally-made revolver and two foreign revolvers.

In addition to the firearms, the police have also recovered 19 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and two rounds of T-56 ammunition from the suspects.

According to Police Spokesperson SP Ajith Rohana, the suspects were arrested in connection with two robberies that had taken place in Yakkala and Kaduwela areas on Wednesday. When the suspects were being interrogated, it had come to light that one of them had been involved in a robbery in Piliyandala where jewellery worth more than Rs 2.5 million was robbed on 2 July 2011.
