A woman, who is the main witness to the murder of her husband was shot dead by an unidentified cyclist in Malagama, Wadduwa yesterday afternoon.

The Wadduwa Police have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspect cyclist, who fled the scene after shooting several bullets at the victim repeatedly. Police sources said the victim died on the spot due to serious injuries.

Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana said the shooting incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. at Malagama junction while the victim was on her way home.  

The deceased, the main witness in her husband’s murder case, was supposed to be giving evidence in the Court inquiry into her husband’s murder case today. According to police sources the victim’s husband was shot dead by an underworld kingpin more than two years ago.

The deceased has been identified as 44-year old B. Dona Indrani, a resident of Malagama, in the Wadduwa area. The autopsy will be performed at the Panadura Base Hospital today.
