“The catchment areas of the reservoirs have not experienced sufficient rainfall. Therefore, power cuts will be continued for a further week,” Anura Wijepala, Vice Chairman, of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) said.
If not for the lack of rain, the breakdowns at the Norochcholai Power Plant would not have caused interruptions to the power supply, he said. The recent breakdowns in the power plant caused electricity supply to be interrupted in certain districts.
The power installation has since been repaired by its Chinese sponsors, but its power transformer has reportedly gone defective causing another breakdown. (AG)
