UNP Kandy youth want Ranil out

The United National Party (UNP) Youth Front of the Kandy District had demanded that   UNP Leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, be removed from the Party leadership, before elections are held in the Central Province.

UNP sources said a majority of the members of the UNP Kandy Youth Front had demanded the removal of Wickremesinghe at an event organized by the UNP Youth Front President, MP Ruwan Wijewardena in Kandy, on Sunday (September 9).

Several prominent members from the UNP Youth Front had raised concerns over the current spate of defeats the UNP has been suffering as a party under the leadership of Ranil Wickremesinghe.

They had requested UNP leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe, be replaced by Deputy Leader, Sajith Premadasa.

“Ranil Wickremesinghe is currently an expired coin. We cannot market him and win elections. He certainly does not even know how to address the youth of this country. Before the Central Province is dissolved, he should resign and hand over his post to Sajith,” one of the members of the Youth Front had told UNP parliamentarian, Ruwan Wijewardena.

The Youth Front members said they were conveying their woes related to the party, as Ruwan Wijewardena is Wickremesinghe’s nephew.

The UNP youths had also criticized the conduct of UNP MP, Mangala Samaraweera, who is handling the party’s media and MP, Shanthini Kongahage, who is handling the party’s women’s front.
