Officers attached to the Special Task Force (STF), in Batticaloa arrested three individuals attempting to sell fake treasures to locals last Friday (11).
The officers made the arrest after receiving information about the planned transaction that was to take place in Chenkaladi in Batticaloa.
The police media unit told Ceylon Today that they were able to arrest the persons with 1189 bronze plated washers which they were to sell for a sum of Rs 500,000.
The three persons who are residents of Badulla and Madulsima have been handed over to the Eravur police for further investigations.
The police were also able to take three pieces of gold each weighing two grammes and the motorcycle used to get to the place of transaction.
The suspects were produced before the Batticaloa magistrate yesterday.
The Eravur police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
