A newly-established Eastern Provincial office of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) was set on fire by an unknown group yesterday morning, party sources said.
The office in Kattankudy was set alight by an unknown group after it was declared open on Friday. Party sources said a heated debate ensued about the location of the office.
“There was a section of the party who opposed the current location of the site,” a senior party member said.
Party sources added that the leader of the party, Rauff Hakeem, visited the site yesterday following the arson attack.
Police Media Unit said that a complaint has been lodged about the fire, but no details were available and no suspects have been arrested.
