The fishing restrictions which were imposed near the Trincomalee outer harbour area were lifted yesterday.
Navy Spokesman Commodore Kosala Warnakulasuriya told Ceylon Today the fishermen’s passes and boats will no longer be checked and they don’t need to obtain a pass to fish in the area.
He said the measures had been taken to secure the area.
“Even though there were a few restrictions during the war, it is all clear now. There are no more restrictions and the place is free,” said the Director General of the Ministry of Fisheries, Nimal Hettiarachi.
