Army and Air Force will feature in what is expected to be an interesting final at the women’s Premier football championships at the CR and FC ground Longden Place on November 28 with kick-off scheduled for 3 p.m.
The airwomen entered the final after a tough battle against Police in the semi final that went into a penalty shoot-out but they could take heart from the fact that they took to the game just under two years ago.
“It’s just one and half years that we started the Air Force team and we know the Army team is much more experience than us. But we will be throwing in everything to win the trophy”, said Air Force coach Bogoda.
Though it’s a new team Air Force has three national players and were also runners up at an Open championship.
On the other hand Army fields a stronger side with seven national players lined up for duty. They have won the title on five occasions in the 10-year history of the championship.
“We are definitely winning this final as we did last year”, Army captain Deepani Samarasinghe.
But Army will be minus star player Champa Kumari who is not eligible to feature in final after receiving a red card in the last match. She will be replaced by Ramya Kumari or Wathsala Dayananda.
The champion team will receive the Champions Challenge trophy, medals and certificates while the runner-up team will receive a trophy along with medals and certificates.
The best player and best goal keeper of the tournament will receive trophies. (Ceylon Today Online)
