Litterbugs at railway stations Prog to monitor passengers

The Department of Railways has decided to establish a special programme to monitor whether passengers follow the instructions on garbage disposal at railway stations, General Manager Railways, B. A. P Ariyaratne announced yesterday.

He made this remark during the inaugural session of the special dengue prevention programme at the Ratmalana Railway Station.

The programme commenced with the participation of the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva.

According to Ariyaratne the programme will be conducted at 351 main and sub railway stations, island wide. A special circular has been issued to all the Station Masters with instructions as to how they should commence dengue prevention programmes at railway stations, he said.

Moreover, all such programmes will be conducted within railway stations with the collaboration of the local governments, he added.

Addressing the inaugural programme, Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that a programme should be implemented to prevent mosquito breeding places inside train carts as well.
