Environment Pioneer President’s Medal Awards ceremony today

Forty 'Environment Pioneers' representing 16 schools, who have qualified for the Environment Pioneer President's Medal Award will receive their medals at a ceremony to be held today at 3:00 p.m., at the President's House, Colombo Fort under the patronage of President, Maithripala Sirisena.

Among the guests who will attend the event will be Minister of Education, Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment, Anuradha Jayarathna, Prof. Lal Mervin Darmasiri Chairman, Hemantha Jayasinghe Director General CEA, along with other distinguished guests who will participate at this occasion.

This programme which was launched by the Central Environmental Authority, implemented five categories offering well organized programmes by the Ministry of Education.

The environmental pioneers who have completed the pathway to obtain the medal have to qualify to obtain the Environmental Pioneer, Green, Silver & Gold medals to become a Presidential Medallist. The Presidential Medal is the highest medal in the EP Medal System.

The Central Environmental Authority in collaboration with the Ministry of Education has made every effort to make it a success. This programme is offered to the students from grade 6 onwards, which create a learning background to be real environment friendly person, an environment sensitive citizen, develop practical knowledge by the participating. Additionally steps are taken by the Environment Pioneer to provide rare opportunity of securing a separate four marks at the university entrance. (N.S)
