Dhruv Sheoran from India fought back in startling fashion with a thin persistent drizzle in fading light and cold wet conditions at the Nuwara Eliya course to beat Sisira Kumara on the 36th hole to become Sri Lanka Amateur Golf Champion 2017 yesterday.

Sisira Kumara gave Sri Lanka much to be proud of when he built a comfortable lead of 4 up after 18 holes in an epic 36 hole final. Sisira having reached the final in 2016, determined to avenge his defeat last year extended his lead to 5 up in the 1st hole of the afternoon round. However, Sheoran hung in there although Sisira was 4 up going to Switzerland.

Sisira mishit his tee shot on the 12th and then Dhruv made a sensational fight back with birdies in 14th & 15th to reduce the lead to 1 up. The turn of fortunes really happened with Dhruv's 30-foot birdie putt on the 15th. The 16th was halved and Dhruv squared the match to go down the final 36th hole with Sisira under pressure.

Sisira Kumara and Dhruv had excellent drives to set up the finale. Sisira was just off the green and Dhruv cast his second shot into the right hand greenside bunker. Dhruv's brilliant bunker shot under pressure sealed the match with another Birdie while Sisira Kumara was unable to 2 putt and with it let slip the Championship Cup.
