John Cena is set to return to the WWE Nov. 19 for Survivor Series after a near two month hiatus from the company.

The 16-time Heavyweight Champion will be competing at the annual November event as part of Team Smackdown as they face off against Raw in a battle for brand supremacy.

Smackdown Live commissioner Shane McMahon announced Cena's return on Twitter Wednesday writing, "Further proving #SDLive is the superior brand, I'm happy to announce @JohnCena will be the 5th member of Team Smackdown at #SurvivorSeries."

Cena joins Smackdown's mens team which consists of McMahon, Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode as they take on the likes of Raw general manager Kurt Angle, his son Jason Jordan, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Braun Strowman. Notably, Angle's job as general manager is on the line if his team loses at Survivor Series, a threat made by Stephanie McMahon.

Cena was last seen in action in September at No Mercy against Roman Reigns in a bout that featured two of the WWE's biggest stars fighting for the right to be the true face of the company. Cena lost after a valiant effort but was given a standing ovation from the audience followed by a "Thank you Cena" chant.

The match took place as Cena was a part of the Raw roster, however, the 40-year-old was previously considered a free agent in the company and able to move between the two brands. Cena has been more closely associated with Smackdown where he competed frequently following WWE's brand split in July 2016.

In September, Cena's fiancee Nikki Bella stated that she doesn't believe her significant other will "ever retire" from the WWE.
