England wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow has admitted that it would be "amazing" if Ben Stokes was able to take part in England's Ashes tour but confessed to not knowing when or if the all-rounder would be joining the squad in Australia.

Stokes is still effectively suspended from England duties following an alleged violent incident with two men outside a Bristol nightclub in September. He was arrested by Avon & Somerset Police at the scene on suspicion of causing actual bodily harm but was subsequently released without charge while investigations continued. It has been reported that Stokes was helping two gay men who were the subject of homosexual abuse.

In recent days, Stokes has posted videos on his Instagram page ofhim bowling in the nets and showing off a number of new bats, minus sponsor's stickers following the decision by New Balance to end their association with him because of the incident. While those clips suggest Stokes is preparing himself for a trip to Australia sooner rather than later, The Daily Telegraph has also reported that a decision over whether charges will be brought against the 26-year-old, could come this week. Australian coach Darren Lehmann has also admitted that the hosts have prepared to face Stokes at some stage.

At the moment, the investigation is still underway and even if the Police do not press charges against the all-rounder, the ECB also have a disciplinary process to follow. It is expected that, that can be concluded relatively quickly and should no further suspension be handed down to Stokes by the ECB, it raises the possibility that he could make some part of the Ashes tour. If things resolve themselves this week, Stokes could feasibly be in Australia in time for the second Test in Adelaide which begins on
2 December.
