Police in Massachusetts helped a homeowner track down the rightful owners of a love letter from 1944 that was discovered during a recent remodeling project.

The Greenfield Police Department said in a Facebook post that a local resident doing a home remodel discovered a love note inside a wall that was dated April 19, 1944.

The letter was signed "Walter" and addressed to "Miss Betty Miller."

"I have always thought more of you than any other girl, and I still do," Walter wrote.

Police said the post helped the homeowner, Francesca Passiglia, get into contact with Irene Fournier, Betty Miller's sister.

Fourtner said her sister, who died years ago, never ended up marrying Walter, but she lived a happy and full life.

"We had the most wonderful visit with Mrs. Fournier this afternoon and gave her the letter," Passiglia said in a comment on the police post.

Passiglia said Betty was 14 at the time she received the letter.

"Irene told us Betty dated two Walters in high school. They were both good dancers so she can't tell which one wrote the letter," Passiglia said in her own Facebook post.

"Spending the afternoon with Mrs. Fournier is proof positive of a Christmas miracle," she wrote.
