Kandy sports lovers pay tribute to young carrom star Navin Kalansuriya, who died under tragic circumstances on Saturday. He was 20 years old at the time of his death. It is a great loss for the sport.

Young Navin learnt the sport at St. Sylvester's College and made the school and Kandy proud with his solid performances whenever he played. He dedicated a good part of his life towards his pet sport. His dream was to represent Sri Lanka and compete with the best players in the World. He was the national schools best carrom player in 2016.

On Saturday afternoon on his way back home from Fort Railway Station after participating in the open carrom tournament held at the Carrom Headquarters in Kohuwela, he had been near the steps of the doorway of the train compartment when his head struck the passing bridge and he fell into the river below. His body was recovered around fifteen hours later a few kilometres away from where he fell.

His funeral will take place today at 3.00 p.m. at the Mahiyyawa General Cemetery.

He has left us too early. He was larger than life and his family and friends loved him dearly. May he rest in peace.
