Former Northern Province Chief Minister (CM) C.V. Wigneswaran on 7 November sent his resignation letter to the Ilankai Thamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) through registered post citing that the ITAK never treated him as part of the Party and politics even though they wanted him to be their candidate at the 2013 Northern Provincial Council Election.
In the letter addressed to ITAK Leader Mavai Senathirajah, he stated that the ITAK sidelined him after making him the CM. He also thanked them for nominating him for the CM post.
Wigneswaran who was an ITAK nominated CM however was not a Member of the ITAK or the Tamil National Alliance (TNA).
“He only filled the ITAK form when he was made a candidate and that’s all. He never visited the ITAK office until the no confidence motion was brought against him. That is the time he came to see me,” noted ITAK Chairman C.V.K. Sivanganam.
Parliamentarian Senathirajah said, “However Wigneswaran was part of the Party and politics and when he formed his own Party, he left. That’s all.”
Wigneswaran was unavailable for a comment.
Wigneswaran had been in dispute with the TNA and the ITAK over many issues and their relations had soured as of late. He blamed them for not abiding by the TNA manifesto that was presented to him over which he decided to take up the CM candidacy. The TNA in return blamed him for not developing the North but constantly working against the Party policies.
Wigneswaran announced the launch of a new Party, the Tamil People’s Alliance (TPA) in October. He intends to make a major comeback at the next Northern Provincial Council Election to complete the task he could not complete, he told Ceylon Today in his last interview before his tenure ended.
