The All-Island Lottery Dealers Society (AILDS) yesterday warned that they will stop selling lottery tickets if the government increases lottery tickets prices to Rs 30 a ticket.

AILDS Convener P. Walimuni stated that the price of a lottery ticket should be frozen at Rs.20. It is the lower middle class citizen who tends to buy lottery tickets to try his luck. A price increase to Rs 30 from Rs 20 will cause a huge drop in sales.

"Our source said it was the Finance Ministry, which had come up with this. They want a tax revenue of Rs 5 from every ticket," Walimuni stated.

He pointed out that the government receives Rs 20 Billion from lottery tickets per year. Therefore, the authorities must reconsider the proposed ticket price increase, the convener said..
