The Court of Appeal yesterday fixed 16 March, for Mention, the Writ Application filed against the suspension of the Carlton Sports Network (CSN) channel.

The Bench comprised Justices Vijith Malalgoda......(President) and S. Thurairaja.

Rohan Welivita a Director of CSN had filed the Writ Application against the Media Ministry, stating that the latter had suspended the telecasting licence without conducting a reasonable inquiry.

The respondent has filed objection stating that the CSN authorities had failed to divulge how the company obtained money to commence the channel and had violated conditions imposed on them when the licence for telecasting was issued.

President's Counsel Sanjaya Jayawardena, appearing for Carlton Sports Network (CSN) submitted that the suspension of the licence was mala-fide and undemocratic and the licence should be released for the channel to continue telecasts.

President's Counsel and Additional Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajaratnam, told Court that the CSN matter must be argued as the respondents had already filed objection.

Court instructed the applicant to file counter objections and ordered that the application be mentioned on 16 March.
