Colombo Additional Magistrate Daminda Weligodapitiya yesterday ordered former Narahenpita Crimes OIC Sumith Champika Perera, who has been implicated in the murder of rugby star Wazim Thajudeen, to be further remanded till 2 March.

This was despite the Colombo High Court having granted bail to......the suspect yesterday, as the verdict issued by the High Court was yet to be received by the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court which had initially remanded him over the said case.

When the case was taken up for hearing at the Colombo Magistrate Court, the order announced by the High Court had not been received, which resulted in the suspect being further remanded.

High Court Judge Manilal Waidyathilaka last morning ordered the suspect to be released on bail after having been in remand for over nine months.

The High Court Judge made his order having considered submissions to Court by Attorney Ajith Perera who appeared for the suspect.

The suspect was ordered to be released on bail in Rs 100,000 cash and three personal bails in Rs 1 million each by the High Court, while his passport was impounded.

He was also ordered to appear before the CID every other month.

The Colombo Additional Magistrate also ordered the other suspect implicated in the same crime, former DIG Anura Senanayake to also be further remanded till 2 March.
