President Maithripala Sirisena has declared that the committee appointed by him on SAITM will come to a decision at the earliest, the Government Medical Officers' Association (GMOA) declared.

Secretary of the GMOA, Dr. Navin De Soyza told Ceylon Today that, the President had mentioned that this problem cannot be solved through a Court verdict and that the continuous protests of the students of State universities is also a problem.
Although the discussions held with the President were at an effective level, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) Professor Mohan De Silva and Professor Colvin Gunaratne who should have spoken up on behalf of the government universities during this issue had instead stood up on behalf of SAITM, Dr. Soyza said. He added that certain ministers and officials are standing up on behalf of SAITM due to the privileges and perks they receive from the institution. He further said that the President had advised the Medical Council to submit their opinion subsequent to studying the proposals prepared jointly by the GMOA, the Medical Faculty Teachers' Association (MFTA) and the Deans' Association (DA). Dr. Soysa however said that until a solution is reached to the simmering issue the GMOA will carry out protests and initiate Court procedures as well.
