Navy Golfers emerge overall champions

Sri Lanka Navy golf team emerged overall champions at the Sri Lanka Inter Club Golf Championship tournament 2017 held from 17th to 19th March 2017 at the Victoria Golf and Country Resort Digana, Kandy and conducted by Sri Lanka Golf Union.
Over 100 golfers from various clubs participated. Navy reached a great milestone in golf by winning both club championship and overall championship in the highest level tournament. Five individual Navy golfers won the longest drive, nearest to pin, net point winner, runners-up and gross point runner-up. Last year Navy won the 2nd Defence Service Golf Championship with an aggregate stableford score of 223 points at the Nuwera Eliya Golf Club.

They are being trained under the guidance of the Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra C Wijegunaratne, WV, RWP & Bar, RSP, VSV, USP, ndc, psn who is also the Chairman Sri Lanka Navy Golf. Recently he was unanimously elected as Chairman of the forthcoming 11th world military (CISM) Golf championship tournament scheduled to play in Sri Lanka in November with the participation of more than 15 countries. Further, SLN Golf is privileged to have its own 9 holes Golf course in Trincomalee and presently fully fledged Aqua Golf driving range was established at Welisara with the initiative of the Commander of the Navy for practice purposes.
