The new Power Rangers film released recently. The reboot is the third film in the franchise and is also called Saban's Power Rangers, featuring the popular characters from the original television series.

Written by John Gatins, the film stars Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger Jason Scott, Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger Kimberly Hart, Becky G as the Yellow Ranger Trini Kwan, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger Zack Taylor and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger Billy Cranston.Bryan Cranston was the motion capture and voice of Zordon (original ancient Red Ranger and mentor) while Bill Hader was the voice behind his robot assistant, Alpha 5. Every superhero film has to have an evil enemy, and in this film, it's the alien invader, Rita Repulsa, played by Elizabeth Banks, also known as the former Green Ranger who has completely gone rogue.

The film based itself on the origin story, with a group of young teenagers as they find five Power Coins and soon realize that they have become extremely strong and have developed strange abilities. Trying to find out more they discover a spaceship underground and are told that they have been chosen to protect the Zeo Crystal from Rita in order to prevent her from destroying all life on earth. With just 11 days on the clock before Rita gains her full power the story becomes about the group of young Rangers who need to learn to work together, bond as a team and train to face what's ahead of them.

The action sequences in the film are well supported by special effects that compliment both the story and the characters, giving the film an extra visual appeal. The layout design of the underground spaceship was well blended with the storyline bringing the movie to life. The film was also backed by a group of young actors who truly owned their individual roles and portrayed excellent character depth, making sure that the chemistry between actors were also well maintained.

Given the fact that the fate of the world lies in the hands of five ordinary teens who need to overcome their personal issues but they don't really know each other. They have limited time but must band together to realize their strength, and discover their true destiny as heroes.

The only down side to this film is that the lead up to the action takes time. But given the fact that this is an origin story, it makes sense that they have taken the time to pace it out. Eventually it's "morphin' time", and the Power Rangers are set to entertain with a well-crafted performance.

This blockbuster by director Dean Israelite was produced together with Brian Casentini, Haim Saban, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen. It was produced by production companies Temple Hill Entertainment and Lionsgate Films. Rated 7/10 on IMDb, with a similar 7/10 on IGN.com and 2/5 on Common Sense Media, the 124 minute film, made with a budget of 100 million, earned over 97 million dollars at the worldwide box office.

The film is one that has the right amount of character, humour and most importantly action, making it an origin film you won't want to miss.
