Gathering Garbage for disposal – Brig. Seneviratne

The Sri Lankan Army will not deploy soldiers to collect garbage, which has accumulated in many parts of the country, Army Spokesman,.. Brigadier Roshan Seneviratne said.

The Army is currently helping regional bodies in the campaign to eradicate dengue and the Army is travelling around the country to identify areas in which garbage has accumulated. The identified areas will be informed to the relevant authorities, he said.

Seneviratne added that Army has deployed six battalions in Colombo District alone under the leadership of a Colonel for this purpose. Speaking to media last Saturday (17) Minister of Health stated that the assistance of the Army will be sought to dispose of garbage, which has accumulated in many parts of the country.
