Shares down after 19-month high

Despite closing last week on a positive note reaching a new 19-month high, the Colombo Stock Exchange (CSE) on Monday (17) closed on a negative note.

The benchmark All Share Price Index on Monday (17) slipped 0.37 per cent (25.07 points) to close at 6,741.07 points, while the S&P SL20 slipped 0.70 per cent (27.40 points) to close at 3,882.14 points. The day's turnover surpassed Rs 736 million, lower than Friday's (14) Rs 1.6 billion, with 91 losers ahead of 57 winners.

Nearly 20.5 million shares changed hands on Monday during 4,903 trades taken place.
The share price of Colombo Cold Stores slipped 2.22 per cent (Rs 19.30) to close at Rs 850 as 250 shares changed hands during five trades, Hatton National Bank slipped 1.89 per cent (Rs 4.50) to close at Rs 234 as 13,555 shares changed hands during 19 trades, while the share price of Asian Hotels and Properties slipped 6.11 per cent (Rs 3.60) to close at Rs 55.30 as 37,337 shares changed hands during 33 trades.

On a positive note, the share price of Asiri Hospital Holdings gained 5.51 per cent (Rs 1.40) to close at Rs 26.80 as 215,943 shares changed hands during 38 trades, Lanka IOC gained 2.89 per cent (90 cents) to close at Rs 32 as 1.25 shares changed hands during 195 trades, while the share price of Aitken Spence gained 1.52 per cent (Rs 1) to close at Rs 67 as 3,300 shares changed hands during nine trades.
