Gang of four opens fire at STF jeep

An unidentified gang of four men opened fire at a Special Task Force (STF) jeep yesterday evening in Kurana, Negombo.

Police Media Spokesperson ASP Ruwan Gunasekara said, the STF officials received a tip-off about the whereabouts of this gang and following this lead they trailed and stopped the suspicious vehicle. After the confrontation there was a rapid exchange of fire in which two of the gang men were injured.

The incident took place yesterday (12) at around 5.15 in the evening. Two men were injured and admitted to the Ragama Hospital, under Police custody. Two others were arrested by the Negombo Police.

The Police seized the van, along with two T-56 repeaters and one pistol that were found inside it.

According to ASP Gunasekara, the STF were alerted as to the gang's whereabouts, acting on the tip-off an operation was conducted to arrest the gang.

The Police are conducting further investigation.
