Arson attack on schoolgirl’s house Minister promises new home

Minister of Agriculture Duminda Dissanayake has pledged to construct a new house for a schoolgirl after her home was torched by unidentified persons at Meeriyagolla, Padukka recently.

Minister Dissanayake visited the scene of the arson attack and promised the girl, Nimani Kawya, with a brand new house that will be built at a cost of

Rs 1.5 million with the assistance from a Sri Lankan millionaire businessman who is currently domiciled in the UK.

The schoolgirl who is studying at Angamuwa Primary School was scheduled to sit the Year 5 Scholarship examination which is set to get underway on Sunday (20 August).

Her house situated at the Meeriyagolla Farming Community area was set on fire by an unknown group on 14 August destroying all her school books and uniforms.

Minister Dissanayake along with the businessman Derwin Gunasekera who had been made aware of the incident through the media had later visited the scene to gather a firsthand update on the incident.

The Minister later made a cash donation to the child with the promise of a new house that will be built adjacent to the former one.
