The Government has reverted the National Lotteries Board (NLB) and the Development Lotteries Board (DLB) back to the Finance Ministry.

Government Printer Gangani Liyanage confirmed to Ceylon Today, last night that the Gazette notification had been issued with effect from midnight on Thursday and that it was operational with immediate effect.

This follows new Foreign Minister Tilak Marapana refusing to have these two Boards under him after he replaced former Minister Ravi Karunanayake.

However, political sources said that the national carrier SriLankan Airlines will remain under the Foreign Ministry. Earlier, former Minister Ravi Karunanayake had insisted to President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe that the NLB and the DLB be brought under his ministry. He appointed his brother-in-law Umesh Jayawardena as the Chairman of the DLB and his friend Sharmila Perera as the Head of the NLB.
