An officer attached to the State Intelligence Service was nabbed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Thursday night with two kilograms of gold worth Rs nine million. Customs Media Spokesman Sunil Jayaratna said, the officer had concealed the gold in his knee guard.

Investigations have revealed that the gold was handed over to him by a passenger who had arrived from Singapore on a SriLankan Airlines flight.

A fine of Rs 300,000 was later imposed on the suspect.

He was taken in for internal investigation by the SIS.
