Minister of City Planning and Water Supply Rauff Hakeem plans to set up a drinking water project for Madhu Church in Mannar, a spokesperson from his ministry said.

"This decision was taken mainly due to the problems faced by thousands of pilgrims who attend the annual Madhu Church feast," the spokesperson said.

Hakeem also promised the Parish Priest of the Madhu Church that he would provide the church with clean drinking water, when he visited the church with a few ministry officials. According to the spokesperson, Hakeem will soon seek special Cabinet approval for this project.

"The aim of the Ministry of Water Supply is to provide clean drinking water to the entire country by 2020," added the spokesperson.
