Two new Northern Provincial Council Ministers were sworn in yesterday (23) before Northern Province Governor Reginold Cooray.

Dr. Gnanaseelan Gunaseelan and Kandaiah Sivanesan were appointed in place of controversial former Minister of Health, Dr. Pathamanathan Sathiyalingam, who stepped down, and Minister of Transport and Fisheries B. Deniwaran, who was sacked, respectively.

The other ministers who took their oaths yesterday included......Northern Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran who was sworn in as the Minister of Finance and Planning, Law and Peace, Lands, Power, Housing and Construction, Tourism, Local Government, Provincial Administration, Rural Development, Road Development, Motor Transport and Transport.

Ananthy Sasitharan was appointed as the Northern Province Women's Affairs, Rehabilitation, Social Services, Cooperatives, Food Supply and Distribution, Industrial and Entrepreneurial Promotion as well as Trade and Commerce Minister.

During the Central Committee meeting last Sunday, the Tamil Eelam Liberation Organization (TELO), another constituent of the TNA announced that Northern Chief Minister C.V. Wigneswaran on his discretion should remove the Minister of Transport and Fisheries, B. Deniswaran.

However, Deniswaran had appealed to Governor Cooray saying that he had been legally advised to continue as the Minister of Fisheries and Transport and remain as a Member of the Board of Ministers of the Northern Provincial Council, over which the Governor had sought advice from the Attorney General's Department.
