The Central Province Rugby Football Union (CPRFU), under the auspices of the Sri Lanka Rugby Union, conducted a two day course for coaches in Kandy District at the Nittawela Club Rugby Auditorium on 3 and 4 September. The course was conducted by Sri Lanka Rugby Educators Nihal (Viper) Gunaratne and Ananda Kasthuriarchchi.

It was heartening to see 32 participants, inclusive of officials from Sri Lanka Rugger and the President of CPRFU, present on both days.

Only 27 candidates who registered themselves with the CPRFU sat for the pre-qualifying examination on-line were enrolled for this batch. The rest, although they went through the course, will be taken in the next batch as advised.

The IRB Level 1 Coaching Course was designed to enable coaches to acquire basic skills and learn how to coach, as well as what to coach, so that players new to the game can learn to play in safety and enjoy competitions.

At the conclusion of the course, it was the consensus of all participants that the course was well presented. Sri Lanka Rugger CEO Priyantha Ekanayake (former Sri Lanka Captain), thanked the Educators, CPRFU President, all participants, helpers and in particular Abdul Rasheed, (sponsor of the event) who helped to conduct this event very professionally with a noteworthy attendance and suggested that a refresher course be done periodically.

It was also suggested that a 'Rugby Coaches Association' of the CPRFU be formed to take forward this endeavour to the next Level. Abdul Rasheed was entrusted to formally organize the Association within the next two weeks.
