Education Council Akkaraipattu held its 'ECA Awards 2017' ceremony at Akkaraipattu Athaullah Arangam recently. Chief Guest on the occasion Dean-Faculty of Education, Open University of Sri Lanka Prof. P.C. Pakkeer Jaufar delivered the keynote address and handed over mementos to the achievers.

Addressing the ceremony, which was presided over by M.M. Mohamed Thaiyar, Chief Guest Professor Jaufar said that he was happy to congratulate the achievers who had excelled in various events and added that this trend should be continued. He also went on to advice the students to pursue their interests with dedication, in order for their talents will be discovered and also asked the organizers of the event to motivate the students to bring out their hidden talents. Prof. Jaufar said young people should be guided and provided knowledge in all aspects, in understanding their talents and not to base success only on the results of the Ordinary Level or Advanced Level Examination results. 'One may not succeed at the Ordinary level or Advanced level examinations, but it doesn't mean that one is not talented.'

He also quoted examples mentioning world famous inventors Einstein, Ford, Honda and Edison. They did not all shine in their academic work in school but excelled later in life. Later, they all became world famous inventors and scientists. So, it is clear one cannot be judged by mere school education success alone, he said.

Nearly 208 students who excelled at the O/L and A/L Examinations and co-curricular activities at the provincial, national and at the international level were honoured at this ceremony.
