General Secretary of the UPFA, Minister Mahinda Amaraweera, asserted yesterday that the Party would not hesitate to take disciplinary action against...... members who criticize or work against the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) or its leadership.
The General Secretary, who is also the Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, made these remarks while addressing a media briefing held at the Ministry Headquarters, citing the recent sacking of Deputy Minister Arundika Fernando from his post as the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Christian Affairs.
The Minister went on to say that former Deputy Minister Fernando had actively worked against the SLFP.

With regard to his replacement, the Minister said that a decision was yet to be taken. "However, the SLFP retains that portfolio and will appoint a replacement soon."

"Such a meeting is a good thing. Nothing wrong with them having a meeting" the Minister responded when a journalist inquired as to whether former Deputy Minister Arundika Fernando had met with President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday.

Furthermore, the Minister lauded MP Kumara Welgama for his statement that the latter would not contest under any other party than the SLFP.

"What MP Welgama said was good. He is a true and loyal SLFPer," Minster Amaraweera said. (SG)
