Former Northern Health Minister, Dr. P. Sathiyalingam, recently said there was no evidence found in the medical examinations to prove that former LTTE cadres were injected with toxic chemicals during the rehabilitation process.

It was earlier alleged that former LTTE cadres were injected with chemicals, while in rehabilitation,....... following which the Northern Health Ministry made arrangements for all former LTTE cadres to undergo a medical examination at Government hospitals in the North.

Accordingly, Dr. Sathiyalingam recently revealed the finding during a recent Northern Provincial Council sitting when Councillor Thavanathan charged that the Council had done nothing regarding the allegation of injecting toxic chemicals.

A team of 10 specialists were appointed by the Northern Health Ministry to examine the matter. Notices were given to former militants through newspapers and application forms were issued. Around 300 ex cadres applied for the medical examination, Dr. Sathiyalingam added.

"No basic factors with regard to the much talked about toxic chemicals were found in any type of examinations," he said.
