Helping murder suspect escape Ex-Snr DIG allowed bail

Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe, who was accused of helping a suspect in the Vithya Sivaloganathan murder case to escape from Police custody, was yesterday (13) allowed bail by the Kayts Magistrate's Court.

Police told Ceylon Today that Senior DIG Jayasinghe was allowed bail in Rs 500,000 cash and four sureties in Rs 500,000 each. He was also banned from travelling overseas and was instructed to hand over his passport to Court.

Further, the Police added that Jayasinghe was ordered to report to the CID Headquarters in Colombo on the first Monday of every month.

The Kayts Magistrate also fixed 5 December 2017 for the next hearing of the case.

Vithya Sivaloganathan, an 18-year-old schoolgirl from Punkudutivu, was abducted, gang-raped and murdered in Jaffna, whilst returning home from school on 13 May 2015. (CD)
