Over 350 rowers vying for honours

Over 350 rowers will vie for honours at the much awaited 32nd National Rowing Championship to be held on the resplendent waters of the Diyawanna Rowing Course beginning today.

There will be 72 events being worked off over the three days at the purpose built facility supported by the Ministry of Sports.

The races will be rowed over a distance of two kilometres and comprising of four lanes. Event categories include men and women Open, over-18 and under-18 that will be of singles, pairs, double sculls, coxless and coxed fours.

The school boy sculler and schoolgirl sculler events will also be conducted. This year's championship will have an exhibition eights race for the first time as a trial run.

In the Open category and thewomen's category, the Sri Lanka Army rowing team will be out to maintain their dominance on water at this championship.

Athletes from 17 institutions will compete in the events and represent the armed forces, leading universities, public, private and international schools.

This annual event is organized by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL).
