Former Central Bank (CB) Governor Arjuna Mahendran yesterday told the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCol), probing the Central Bank Bonds scam, that the undated letter, which guaranteed the holding of the bond sale on 27 February 2015, had been received by him from then Minister of Finance Ravi Karunanayake's Private Secretary later, in June 2016.

Mahendran told the Commission, that the letter was given to him in order for it to be submitted to the COPE Committee proceedings held in this regard in Parliament.

The former CB Governor told the Commission that the letter in question had been received by him not in February 2015, but in the first week of June last year.

Mahendran was responding under cross-examination by Acting Solicitor General (ASG) Dappula de Livera.

When asked whether the letter had been undated and that no document number had been mentioned in it, in an effort to mislead the PCol, the former CB Governor refuted the allegation.

The Acting Solicitor General told the Commission, that the letter had been completely fabricated to mislead the PCol.
